Mumbai Diary: Thursday theme

The land of Zen and Yen in Mumbai
Japan on the mind. Ever since PM Narendra Modi went to Japan and evoked wahs wahs and ha ha’s (many of these sarcastic) for playing the Taiko drums in Japan, the land of the rising sun is on the radar.

Now, K HOUSE Inc, the restaurant chain of Japan has announced the inaugural edition of ‘Japan Film Festival India (JFFI) 2014’ in Mumbai. The festival will run from December 12 to 14, 2014 at Inorbit Mall, Malad. It features 10 Japanese films.

Take a break from shopping, to imbibe Japanese culture, which includes Taiko (oh those drums again!) karate (martial art, which means the way of the empty hand), Origami and Sado (Japanese Tea Lessons). A little bit of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Mumbai, and don’t google it, these are the four islands that Japan is made of.

Material mirth and what it's worth

Way back in the 1980s there was a trend among sultry Southside heroines to tag their names with some textile fabric. For instance, there was Silk Smitha, Polyester Padmini, Nylon Nalini, Rayon Revathi and others.

Commenting on this bizarre trend, Deven had reacted with “Why don’t they also have some lead actors out here called Kotton Kumar and Khaadi Khanna.

Since, I am fond of wearing jeans, who knows, they may even tag me as Denim Deven,” the Golmaal actor had quipped with a straight face.
