The Commissioner, who was part of the panel to inaugurate the route map for the marathon to be run on January 18 stated, at the outset of his address that this was the 14th edition of the Mumbai Marathon. Correction.
It is the 12th one. Oops. you are a man ahead of your time, sir. Two years, to be precise. Barring that little lapse, a doff of the hat to the city police who have managed this event with aplomb for so many years. Cops are tops on these routes.
Finding Good Samaritans
A wallet left behind in an autorickshaw or some other public place usually means that the owner will have to say bye-bye to the contents, as well as block credit and other cards.

But when our colleague got out of an autorickshaw in Ghatkopar, having left her wallet behind, she did not have to despair for long. The wallet was found by two youngsters, Nikita Shrivastava and Garima Shukla. The wallet contained cash, a pair of gold earrings, and various cards identifying the owner.
The girls first tried to contact our colleague on Facebook and Twitter but worry had kept her offline. Then they called the gym, as one of the cards was a gym membership, and that is how our colleague received a call from the gym telling her the wallet was safe and sound.
Thumbs up to the youngsters for going to such lengths to locate the owner, and may their tribe increase!
Fun with a punch
Who said festivals are all about frivolity? They can raise awareness while also entertaining people, and that’s what the Powai Fest 2015 is doing, among other things.
The three-day festival, which is in its second year, is including programmes such as street play on organ donation, self-defence workshop, and an Unsung Heroes Project, along with a carnival, rock concert, sports events, fashion show and fun fair which are a staple of festivals in any case.
The play, called Chiranjeevi Bhav, will be performed by Open Minds Productions, and the theatre group along with the Rotary Club will distribute 500 forms for organ donation to people in the audience. Powai Fest will be held from Jan 16 to 18 at Durga Puja Festival Grounds, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, from 11am to 8pm.
Seating dis-arrangement!
When space for both sitting and standing is at a premium during regular working hours, it was all the more galling to find an entire seat missing altogether in this Navi Mumbai Muncipal Transport (NMMT) bus. Both driver and conductor seemed quite blase when asked, saying, “Aisa hi chalta hai.”

The bus should be checked before it leaves the depot for the start of its run, but no one bothers, they said. Another problem that NMMT commuters (as well as drivers and conductors) face is the frequent breaking down of buses mid-route. For tax-paying commuters, it’s a journey of questions on where their money is going...
