This year, the South African Consulate in partnership with other South African state entities, businesses and partners spent time with underprivileged children of Mumbai NGO Smile Foundation. Maropene Ramokgopa, South African Consul General shared, “We are urging every Mumbaikar to do something good or spend some time each day that would make a difference in the life of somebody.
We intended to spread some happiness and love amongst the less fortunate.” The UN General Assembly has been celebrating this day in recognition of his contribution to justice, freedom & democracy since 2009. The high point of the visit was when consulate members including the consul general shook a leg at an impromptu dance performance on Bollywood music along with the kids. A day well spent.

As Bombayphiles mourn the passing away of a cultural pillar, Usha Khanna, in a timely coincidence, we spotted a post by the Cafe Samovar FB page. They had shared frames of the iconic cafe that were spotted in one of the now-popular Irani cafe-themed outlets Dishoom! in London.

As we zoomed into the grainy photo, we spotted the famous aisle of the cafe, another with artist and patron MF Husain at the cafe and a third with Usha Khanna and her daughters, Deveika and Malavika.
