Four girls who had been missing from an Andheri-based NGO were finally brought back. According to the Amboli police, with whom the missing case had been registered, two of the four delinquent girls had eloped with their boyfriends and had convinced their friends to accompany them out of the NGO premises.

The four girls, who are juvenile offenders, had ventured out of the NGO from Andheri (West), on a Saturday, since they were allowed to eat outside on that day. When the staff members took a headcount in the night, the four girls were missing. NGO workers approached the Amboli police and registered a missing complaint. Cops then set about to trace the girl.
The search
One of the girls, Nisha (name changed) has a robbery case against her, and police records showed up an address in Panvel. Meanwhile, another of the four girls returned to the NGO after a few days.
When police questioned her, she said she had gone to meet her parents. The girl gave the cops the mobile number of a boy who was supposed to have accompanied one of the girls. When cops traced the phone, it was found to be in Panvel.
On reaching there, police found Nisha with her boyfriend. They then learnt that the third girl, from Diva, was staying there with her boyfriend. The fourth girl had gone to a friend’s house after meeting her mother. Police brought back all four girls to the police station on Sunday and arrested the two boys for rape and kidnapping.
The girls then revealed that Nisha had met her boyfriend in the Dongri boys’ home, when she had been taken there for hearings of the Child Welfare Committee in her robbery case. The girls used to reside in the section meant for girls in the same home.
Nisha said she fell in love with the boy and would often meet him outside the Dongri home. After the boys were released after they turned 18, they would meet the girls, who were later shifted to the Andheri NGO. The two girls had decided to elope with their boyfriends, and even convinced their two friends to run away with them and go home.
“We traced them through the girl who had returned on her own. We rescued the girls and brought them back on Sunday. The girls have now been sent to a home in Mankhurd,” said a police officer from Amboli police station.
