After the rape of the US student, TISS hostel has imposed strict rules that were till now on paper
The gates of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) hostel will now be shut at midnight barring entry or
exit of students. In a city that stays up all night, the 12 am deadline may sound unrealistic, especially for postgraduate students in their mid-20s, but the stringent rules are in place after the alleged rape of the 23-year-old US student from TISS.

Authorities from TISS told MiD DAY that last evening all students were handed over circulars bearing new instructions with regard to the entry and exit at the hostel.
Dilip Shetty, acting registrar with TISS, said that a review of the campus and its security had been completed and rules that already existed were reinforced. "These are postgraduate students and we cannot treat them like children. After consultation with the students' union, we have decided to reinforce rules that already existed, but were relaxed."
Apart from the midnight deadline, students will have to display their ID cards each time they enter the hostel and are expected to lend full cooperation to the security staff. Also, the number of days spent on campus and in the hostel will be recorded.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
