Fire and Safety Association of India announces Rs 75,000 prize to mandal that ensures 100% safety
Following the Mumbai police's decision to reward mandals that celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi peacefully this year, the Fire and Safety Association of India (FASAOI) has decided to award mandals that follow safety norms.
"We'll reward mandals that ensure 100 per cent fire safety," said Pramoud Rao, president, FASAOI.
He revealed that mandals will be judged on four parameters (see box) and the winner will be get a cash prize of Rs 75,000.
The association has already issued guidelines to mandals, educating them about the steps they need to take to ensure a safe Ganeshotsav.u00a0
Most mandals, however, have already adopted stringent security measures for Ganesh Chaturthi this year.

Sanjay Gadgil, treasurer of Lalbaugcha Raja mandal, said, "We will have hand and door metal detectors along with CCTV cameras at all four entry and exit points."
Ulhas Kamath, trustee, GSB mandal, said, "Apart from increasing the number of CCTV cameras and hand and metal detectors, we have marked parking area 100 metres away from the mandal."
He added that around 12 policemen will also be deployed inside the mandal.
