NGOs invite Mumbaikars to pay a unique homage

On November 25, artists and students from all over the city will come together to paint a tribute in black, red and white to the heroes of the 26/11 massacre.

The tribute is a joint effort by a group of NGOs and the BMC.

Shaina NC of I Love Mumbai and Giants International, the participating NGOs, said the project would solve two purposes of preventing people from defacing public property and of being an outlet for those who want to pay a tribute.

"Not only artists, but the common man too can participate. We chose these colours because they are dramatic," said Shaina

All welcome

The NGOs will collaborate with student groups and the Mumbai Arts Project. Shilpa Joglekar, head of the Rachna Sansad Academy of Fine Arts and member of the Mumbai Arts Project, said, "We have over 50 artists who wish to participate and we hope many more will come forward."

Sydenham College student Anand Waindeshkar said, "I will paint in honour of the firemen who were not trained to deal with terrorists, but still bravely rescued victims at the Taj."

The planners are yet to decide between Tulsi Pipe Road and Queen's Road in Marine Lines as the venue. The timings of the event are yet to be finalised.

The wall project

In an attempt to beautify Senapati Bapat Marg, over 200 artists painted the u00a01.5-km stretch between Mahim and Matunga stations in August, in collaboration with the BMC.

The second phase took place on October 25. However, two days later, they were shocked to see posters of three Bollywood films pasted on their walls.

They expressed their anger on Twitter and the film producers removed the posters and restored the paintings.
