Mumbai police is all set to give roadside Romeos a hard time this December 31.

Following cases of sexual harassment on New Year's eve in 2006 and 2007, the city police have been walking the extra mile to ensure popular spots in the city like the Gateway of India and Juhu Chowpatty are safe for women on the big night.

"CCTVs and watchtowers will be monitor the crowds at New Year hotspots like the Gateway and Juhu. Police men and women in plainclothes will mingle in the crowds.

Any act of harassment that comes to our notice will be dealt with strictly," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Himanshu Roy.

All Eyes Are On You: After the cases of sexual harassment on New Year's eve in 2006 and 2007, the city police will ensure the popular spots like Gateway of India and Juhu Chowpatty are safe for women on the big night.

"Parents are requested to keep themselves appraised about the places their teenage kids intend to visit on New Year's eve and with whom.

Do not abuse drugs and other banned substances and do not accept drinks from strangers. Enjoy, but do it responsibly," Roy added.

Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police KMM Prasanna said, "People will be frisked at some spots, and barricades will be put up at select entry points across the city.

Before buying tickets for any event, citizens are requested to check the background of the organizers. I have instructed my men to behave politely but firmly with the crowds," said DCP Prasanna.

New Year Eves That Shamed Mumbai

A newly-wed NRI woman was molested outside the J W Marriott, Juhu.

The police had arrested 14 boys in connection with the case, but could not prove the charges against them in court. The accused walked out on bail.

However, the cops failed to arrest the main accused. Also, the victim refused to lodge a complaint.

A woman, in her mid 20s was molested by a mob despite police presence and in full public view at the Gateway.

The men tore her dress and pushed her to the ground even as her companion tried hard to ward them off.
