A candle light vigil was held at the venue to show solidarity, and those gathered paid no heed to the heavy rain and blaring traffic.
While some held placards sending out a strong message, others bowed their heads in silence as a tribute. Several senior journalists spoke to the gathering and sent out a message of fearless journalism, which J Dey was known for.
City Police Commissioner Jyotiprakash Mirji also participated in the candlelight vigil. He made a strong statement in favour of bringing out the truth and stated that the Bangalore police department would be honoured to help journalists in the city to uncover the truth.
For many journalists gathered at the vigil, the event reiterated the spirit of journalism and many who held candles to show their support claimed to not let an event like this dampen the spirit of reporting.
Though the candles might have been extinguished by the rain, the spirits of those present did not dampen in the least and the message each one took back was to pursue the truth, even if death stares in your face.
