"Adarsh coachu00a0will provide better services than Kingfisher Airlines," Bipin Gandhi, founder and president of Rail Parishad said.
The Rail Parishad , an NGO has entered the 'Limca Book of Records' by converting an AC chair car coach (C-3) on the Nashik-Mumbai Panchavati Express into an 'Adarsh coach'. Commuters (all monthly season ticket holders) travelling in the coach every day have to follow a voluntary code of conduct.
The experiment which started two years ago, is all set to compete with Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airline, said Gandhi.
Gandhi and his team have separated the three-and-a-half hour journey into four segments.
>> Nashik to Igatpuri (7-8 am) is dedicated to newspaper reading and personal calls;u00a0
>> Igatpuri to Kasara (8-8.35 am) breakfast time;
>> Kasara to Kalyan, which is 10 minutes, is the silent zone where everyone follows a 'maun vrat';
>> And the final leg of the journey between Kalyan to Dadar is for the exchange of personal notes as well as calls.
Gandhi, conceptualised the idea of Adarsh Coach when he heard people talk about how good rail travel is in other cities of the world, yet no efforts were made to improve things here.
"Initially people resisted change but over a couple of months it became one of the popular coachu00a0in trains," said Gandhi, adding that he took time for telling people to switch off their cell phones and behave politely.
| Features >> The Adarsh coach has a well-equipped first aid box >> A diary with contacts and details of all commuters >> Every member's birthday, anniversary is celebrated >> Pest control is carried out regularly >> The free service of buying first class monthly season tickets and accidental insurance cover is provided to regular commuters. |
