WWE fans in Mumbai mourn Macho Man's death in a car crash in Tampa, Florida
The world's most famous Macho Man passed away on Friday, leaving behind disappointed fans. Veteran wrestler Randy Savage, known as Macho Man to fans, was a former megastar of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) (now World Wrestling Entertainment), a multiple championship winner and entertainer.
According to reports, Savage, 58, and his wife Barbara were travelling in a 2009 Jeep Wrangler when the vehicle jumped a median and careened into a tree at 9:58 am, EST. Savage was pronounced dead at Largo Medical Center while his wife had minor injuries. The authorities confirmed the crash was not alcohol-related.
"He was one of the first guys in the ring to have truly entertained us. His colourful garb, and fancy moves were unique. I'm sad my childhood hero is no more," said 24 year-old Mumbai fan Neshwin Almeida. For another fan, Amit Sabhani, Macho Man was "truly macho". "He was in the same league as Hulk Hogan and Hitman... the classic American wrestler."
Randall Mario Poffo or Macho Man Randy Savage was an American wrestler known for his stint with then WWF. Famous for his sequined over-the-top costumes, raspy voice and a catch phrase ('Oh yeah!), left behind a grieving fan base, most of whom turned to the Internet to offer their condolences.
Twitter streams were flooded with tweetsu00a0 from Savage's fans, including several WWE superstars. Dwayne 'Rock' Johnson tweeted, "RIP Randy 'Macho Man' Savageu00a0-- you were one of my childhood inspirations and heroes. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family."
"He had so much life in his eyes and in his spirit, I just pray that he is happy and in a better place and we miss him," said wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan. A favourite among the current crop, John Cena said, "The untimely passing of Randy Savage is indeed tragic. All true fans of wrestling will mourn this loss. One of the all time greats." Savage's Fans turned to Facebook and created a "RIP Macho Man Randy Savage" page overnight. By the time this paper went to print, the page already had 721 likes.
