The civic body had last month ordered the demolition of 350 five-storey shanties and nearly 500 ground-plus-two/three slum tenements in the area. mid-day had on June 22 (right) reported that the illegal ‘high-rises’ were to be brought down soon.

The demolition order came close on the heels of another mid-day report on June 7, highlighting the dangers that such shanties pose. Some of the buildings had been raised to six stories, which could easily be 80 ft high, and almost touched the Bandra skywalk.
