Following Raghuveer Singh's plea for anticipatory bail, investigating officers tell court that he has subverted facts; will present sealed report at next hearing on July 20

Sandhya Singh murder: Son has been lying, say cops

The hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Raghuveer Singh, son of deceased Sandhya Singh, has been deferred till July 20, following the submission made by the Crime Branch, stating that he is one of the key suspects in the case. Fearing arrest in the case, Raghuveer had applied for anticipatory bail last week, after which the Navi Mumbai court had asked the Mumbai Crime Branch to file their say in the court.

Police have made no breakthrough in the murder case of Sandhya Singh, who went missing on December 13, last year

“After the judge asked us for the report, the investigating officers requested the court if they could present it in a sealed condition, as it could alert Raghuveer who is making desperate attempts to ascertain what evidence has been compiled against him,” said a Crime Branch source.

According to Crime Branch officials, Raghuveer is one of the suspects in the case, and had tried to mislead the investigations on couple of occasions earlier, when he was summoned for interrogation. He had even attempted to manipulate facts, and officials had made a detailed note of his attempts to subvert facts.

Elaborating on how they nailed Raghuveer’s lies, a CB official said, “On one instance, Raghuveer claimed that Sandhya was to visit a relative in Juhu, which was a lie since she would usually inform the relative and even her driver a day in advance in case she had planned to venture out.”

No watchman
Police said the absence of watchmen at Sandhya’s building on the day of her disappearance hampered investigations in the case. “The investigating officers summoned the three building watchmen and their supervisor to the office, and they were made to sit face-to-face.

Earlier, when they were interrogated separately, they were allocating blame on each other, but after they came together, they revealed that no one was manning the entrance of the building when she [Sandhya] stepped out till the time she returned,” said the source.

According to the cops, if the watchman had been present at their respective stations, then they would have got leads in the case, which would have helped them solve the case earlier. Investigating officers are still trying to establish Sandhya’s movement after she paid a visit to the local bank.u00a0

The case
Sandhya Singh went missing on December 13, last year. She had gone to deposit jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh at a Nerul bank. Later, a British birdwatcher led the police to a skeleton in the marshes off Delhi Public School on Palm Beach Road on January 28. A day later, Singh’s family members claimed that they were her remains. The claim was made on the basis of the articles recovered from the spot where the skeleton was found.u00a0
