Shocking: Man stabs another over sleeping spot at Thane station

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has managed to trace a 27-year-old who had allegedly killed a person over a dispute about sleeping spots on July 31 at the Thane railway station. The police has also learnt that he had committed a crime in Beed’s Majalgaon area.

A CCTV grab of the incident

Breaking the case
On July 31, a murder had taken place at platform number 9 of Thane station and according to Rupali Ambure, deputy commissioner of police, GRP, “a person’s body was found on the trans-harbour line platform on August 1”.

A team headed by Santosh Dhanavate, senior police inspector of local crime branch of GRP, immediately visited the spot. “We found some CCTV footage where we saw a man with his wife and two kids stabbing another who was also accompanied by a man.”

The person who stabbed had a head injury with a bandage covering his whole head. The GRP officer’s then circulated the clear grab among its staff and informers, asking them to keep an eye out for the accused. A team headed by assistant police inspector, Raju Manohar, managed to trace a person with the matching head injury, a female and two kids in tow near the Jumbo Vada Pav in Thane (W) and nabbed the accused.

“He was identified as Balu Baburao Ghadsinghe, 27, a resident of Beed, Laul gaon,” said Dhanavate.

Prior record
On investigation, the police found out that back in his native village too, Balu had killed a certain Santosh Ghadsinghe as he had registered an attempt to murder case against Balu and his kin, which Balu asked him to withdraw. On being refused, Balu killed him and escaped to Mumbai with his family.

Fought over space
When Balu reached Thane, he went to his brother’s house but was refused entry. Upset, he came to Thane station’s trans-harbour line platform 10A. Just as he was about to sleep with his family, a person claimed that it was his place and asked them to leave. “They had a fight, when the cops heard the argument, they came over and asked both parties to leave,” said Ambure.

Balu then went to platform number 9 of the trans-harbor line and was about to sleep, but this time, the still unidentified person came over with an accomplice. Balu then killed his opponent, stabbed the accomplice and left the station immediately.

“We arrested Balu and he has been handed to the Thane GRP police station. The GRP is likely to produce him before a local court on Tuesday,” said Dhanavate.
