Thane: A police officer was arrested while he was allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 20,000, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials said on Thursday.

Sub-inspector Dyaneshwar L Awte, 28, attachted to Palghar Police Station in Thane had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from the complainant for helping him in getting anticipatory bail in a case, an official release issued by Thane ACB unit here today said.


Following the officer's demand, the aggrieved complainant filed a complaint with Thane ACB last evening. A trap was laid at the Kalwa Naka last evening and caught Awte was caugth red-handed taking Rs 20,000 as first instalment of the bribe amount from the complainant.



The officer has been charged under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
