In itself, result day is a bit of a bombshell for many students, but the CBSE doesn’t believe in softening the blow.

Again this year, the Central Board of Secondary Education announced the Std X results for the Chennai region under which Maharashtra falls without any prior intimation.
Students as well as schools were surprised with the abrupt announcement last evening. “Usually, at least schools are informed a day in advance, but this year there was no such intimation.
The good thing is that like every year, Chennai region has announced the results before other regions,” said Avnita Bir, principal of R N Podar High School in Santacruz. This is the first year that the CBSE Std X mark sheets reflect Problem Solving Assessment (PSA).
Divided into qualitative reasoning, quantitative reasoning and language convention, the PSA exam is not based on a specific subject, but rather focuses on testing the students’ problem solving skills. “Students found PSA very tough, and we were expecting scores to go down.
But our students have done really well. The number of students who have scored a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 10 has gone up this year compared to last,” said Bir.
The school topper, Asutos Mohapatra, has scored 97.6%. At Kendriya Vidyalaya in Powai, some 44 students scored a perfect 10 CGPA, and school topper, Vidyank Momaya, scored 98.6%.
“We have a number of students who have scored full marks in subjects like Mathematics as well as the languages. This batch has done extremely well,” said Principal N D Joshi. At Rajhans Vidyalaya in Andheri (West), 35 out of 126 students got 10 CGPA, whereas 55 got the A1 grade. Their topper, Nihar Rajapurkar, scored 96.2%.
