The decision was taken after a secret ballot held in the Thane district courts bar room in which more than 80 per cent of the member-advocates votes in favour of the indefinite stir, association sources said.
Lawyers yesterday had gone on a day-long strike. Yesterday, office-bearers of the association and a few advocates held a meeting with High Court Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar to discuss the issue of starting courts in Bhiwandi.
The Chief Justice is understood to have informed them that the High Court had already taken a decision to bifurcate the district court and start courts for the town.
He also said to have asked the lawyers not to strike work. This morning, a special meeting of the association was called to discuss the issue in detail. Members were also informed about the talks held with the Chief Justice.
Later it was decided to hold a secret ballot to get the view of the advocates on the issue of strike, which has not been extended indefinitely.
