Police have launched a manhunt for three suspicious persons, who allegedly carried a satellite phone, SIM cards and three big gunny bags, following a complaint by a resident of neighbouring Thane district.

On December 25, Ganesh Tare, a resident of Taricha Pada near Thane creek, spotted the three youths wandering near the creek and complained to the Kapurbawdi police.

"We took note of the complaint and are investigating the case. As per the details given by Tare, we are drawing the sketches of the three suspects. We did not recovered any suspicious material when we went to the Thane creek," S Gaikwad, Senior Inspector, Kapurbawdi police station said.

Tare, who spotted the trio at the mangroves for two consecutive days, first approached a local corporator Madhukar Pavshe after which a complaint was registered with the police.

Tare spotted the three enter mangroves, carrying gunny bags and initially did not find anything suspicious, Pavshe, the corporator from Kolshet, said.

The next day, he again saw them in the same area, this time speaking over a mobile phone of a larger size (which the police suspects to be a satellite phone).

"Tare told me that they were speaking in Hindi. He heard them saying 'Ek mahine se zyada hogaya lafda hoke. Hame yaha se nikaalo. Ghatna ke baad koyi bhi phone nahi utha rahe hai (It is more than a month since the incident. Please take us away from this place. After the incident, nobody was picking up our call)," Pavshe said.
