The trial in the Mumbai terror attacks case will begin on March 23 with a metropolitan magistrate on Monday committing the proceedings to the special session court set up inside the high-security Arthur Road prison here.

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab, the lone terrorist caught in connection with the terror strikes, for the first time on Monday interacted through video conferencing with magistrate NN Shrimangale from the jail premises.

"I am committing the case to sessions for trial," the magistrate said. During the video conferencing, Qasab told the magistrate that he did not understand the chargesheet filed in English and Marathi.

The magistrate told the accused that he could make his plea before the special court.
