Amid concerns over a possible shortage of cooking gas due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Gulf countries, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Friday clarified that domestic gas cylinders are available in adequate quantity and appealed to citizens not to panic or hoard LPG cylinders.
Civic officials said the shortage currently being discussed mainly affects industrial and commercial gas, while domestic LPG and PNG supply remains stable and uninterrupted across the city.
Authorities cautioned that panic buying or storing multiple cylinders could unnecessarily disrupt the supply chain and create artificial shortages.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner’s appeal
NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde urged citizens to remain calm and rely only on official information.
“Domestic LPG and PNG supplies for households in Navi Mumbai are completely stable and available in sufficient quantity. Citizens should not panic or indulge in hoarding of gas cylinders. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring uninterrupted supply, especially for households, hospitals and school nutrition programmes,” he said.
Priority supply
The civic body stated that maintaining uninterrupted gas supply for households, hospitals treating patients and preparation of meals under school nutrition programmes remains its top priority.
Officials added that the administration is continuously monitoring the situation to ensure that essential services are not affected.
'Don’t fall for rumours'
The municipal corporation also warned residents not to believe rumours circulating on social media about a possible shortage of domestic cooking gas and to rely only on verified information issued by authorities.
