The Malwani police have arrested a 44-year-old doctor for allegedly sexually abusing and molesting a 12-and-a-half-year-old girl inside his clinic during treatment.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Sections 10 and 12.

According to the police, the doctor, a resident of Kandivli, has been running a clinic in Malwani for a couple of years.

The victim, who had suffered a lip fracture, visited the clinic alone for treatment. She alleged that during the examination, the doctor asked her to lie down and touched her inappropriately, causing mental distress and embarrassment.

Following the complaint, PSI Shivaji Mohite registered the case and API Prashant Mundhe later took over the investigation and arrested the accused.

Police said the doctor holds an acupuncture degree and was allegedly conducting various medical treatments without proper authorisation. His degrees and certificates are being verified. The accused was produced before the sessions court on December 24.
