Chaos reigned at the Government Law College (GLC), Churchgate, after 10 students alleged that they were wrongfully failed in the practical exams. In a letter to the vice-chancellor of the Mumbai University, senate members and students alleged incorrect evaluation and demanded action against those responsible for it.

On March 25, the practical exam for the subject Drafting, Pleading and Conveyance (DPC) was held at GLC for students of three and five-year courses. The results for the same were announced on May 10, and 90 students were declared failed.

Post this, several students approached the college administration over their unexpectedly low marks. After a few students pleaded and even threatened to take legal action, the paper was re-evaluated and all the students, barring 10, were declared passed. Those who have failed, have raised doubts about the evaluation process. Those who have failed will not be allowed to appear for the final semester exams, unless they clear the practicals.

Pradeep Sawant, senate member and member of the academic council, said, “Firstly, re-evaluation is not allowed in internal exams. It was done to cover up the error. We will support the students who [have] approached us.”

Despite repeated attempts, the Principal of GLC, Asmita Adwait Vaidya could not be contacted. An official from GLC said, “There was a technical error with the results announced on May 10, so we conducted a re-evaluation and rechecking for them. We will try and help those students who still have concerns about the results.”
