A 28-year-long dream has finally been realised with the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) commencing operations today. Spanning 1160 hectares in Ulwe, the facility was developed by the City Industrial Development Corporation and Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited in a public-private partnership model.

The proposed facilities of NMIA — the largest greenfield airport in the country — present an opportunity that will be a game changer in India’s civil aviation sector and provide a boost to regional economies, tourism, job creation, and infrastructure development. It isn’t going to compete with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) but will act as a complementary airport, elevating the aviation sector in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to new heights.
