As Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 approaches, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has announced a list of guidelines to be followed while applying for temporary power supply at Ganesh pandals in Mumbai.
An official statement by the BEST said that the Ganesh mandals in Mumbai can also register their applications online by visiting the official website, www.bestundertaking.com.
After submitting the online form, a printout must be submitted to the respective customer service office along with required documents.
Key guidelines for Ganesh mandals:
Application Submission: Mandals must submit applications as early as possible. Applications should include the mandal’s name, full address, required supply period, a representative’s name and phone number, and bank account details. A signed guarantee letter accepting full responsibility for the safety of the Ganesh pandal must be submitted.
NEFT Form: Refunds of any balance from the deposit amount will be transferred to the mandal’s bank account within one month via NEFT.
A standard NEFT form (available at customer service centres) must be filled. If not, refunds will be given via cheque within 90 days.
Permission from Land Owner / Housing Society: Written permission is required from the landowner or society where the pandal will be installed.
Application to Electrical Inspector: A copy of the permission from the Electrical Inspector or proof of application must be attached.
Testing Report: An authorised electrical contractor must assess and certify the power load. A test report listing all electrical equipment must be submitted, including ELCB testing. Proper wiring and electrical safety as per Indian rules must be ensured. No loose or unsafe wiring should be used.
BMC No Objection Certificate (NOC): Mandals installing pandals on roads or footpaths must provide NOC from the BMC, as per the Bombay High Court’s order dated 24 June 2015.
Police Permission: A copy of this year’s or last year’s police permission (or receipt of application submitted this year) must be submitted.
Electricity Bill Undertaking: A copy of the latest electricity bill from the same cabin where the temporary meter is needed must be attached. An undertaking must be signed by the Mandal or permanent electricity account holder.
Fees and charges for power supply-
Registration Fee is Rs 90 (Single phase) and Rs 145 (Three phase)
Connection Charges are Rs 150-Rs 200 (if infrastructure exists), or actual cost
The deposit will be based on last year’s bill or Rs 20/day/kW (for new mandals), whichever is higher
Electricity meter deposit will be Rs 3,500 (Single phase), Rs 4,700 (Three phase up to 60kW), Rs 10,500 (CT meter above 60kW)
Electricity tariff are based on MERC’s approved rate sheet for FY 2025–26. Ganesh Mandals will be charged residential concessional rates, including fixed charges, fuel adjustment, supply charge, etc,
