Gas leak near hospital in Thane, supply to several residents affected

A gas leak was on Thursday reported near a hospital in Maharashtra's Thane due to which supply to several residents nearby was affected, civic officials said.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), a gas leak incident was reported near Shriram Hospital in Owale area at Ghodbunder Road in Thane (West).


The incident took place at around 7:44 am.



As per the information received by the Disaster Management Cell, the gas leak occurred in the supply pipeline of Mahanagar Gas servicing A-wing of the Cosmos County Casa building, the officials said.

The building is a ground plus 7 floors. Due to the incident the gas supply  was affected to several flats in the building.

Due to the gas leak, supply to 28 flats in A-wing was interrupted, but according to Mahanagar Gas officials, normal supply would be restored soon.

Following the information, emergency response teams, including Mahanagar Gas Company staff, Disaster Management officials, and Fire Brigade personnel along with one rescue vehicle, reached the location, said officials.

The incident was reported at around 9:23 am on Thursday following which the Regional Disaster Management Cell officials along with other civic officials rushed to the spot.

"No injuries were reported in the incident which took place inside a flat on 5th floor of a building," said an official.

The RDMC said that the Mahanagar Gas staff stopped the leak, and repair work was underway. The situation was under control.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a gas cylinder nozzle leak was reported from a flat in Parth Arcade building in Kharegaon area of Kalwa, officials said.

The leak occurred in room no 504 on the fifth floor of the ground plus 7 storey building, the RDMC said on Thursday.

"Bharat Gas staff and Fire Brigade personnel, along with one rescue vehicle, rushed to the spot and managed to control the situation," said an official, adding that the leak was safely sealed, and no injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighters confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control and there was no threat to residents or surrounding flats, the RDMC said.
