Under the National Health Mission, the Public Health Department has taken a policy decision to allow a one-time transfer of Community Health Officers (CHOs) currently working in various health sub-centres across the state during their service period, a recently released Government Resolution (GR) said.
From June 23 to June 25, 2025, inter-district and intra-district transfers of CHOs will be carried out based on their requests.
Several Community Health Officers appointed under the National Health Mission are working in primary health centres across the state. For the past few years, various CHO associations have been consistently demanding transfers based on personal requests. In order to strengthen the tertiary healthcare system, the Minister for Public Health and Family Welfare, Prakash Abitkar, has taken a decision to approve a one-time transfer policy for CHOs during their service tenure.
Currently, CHOs serving in different districts will be allowed to request transfers to their preferred districts.
The inter-district transfer process will be managed by Director-1, Health Services, Mumbai. Applications from interested CHOs for inter-district transfers will be accepted until June 12, 2025.
The scrutiny of applications will take place from June 13 to June 19, 2025.
The list of eligible CHOs for transfer will be published on the official website of the Health Department on June 20, 2025.
Counselling sessions related to the requested transfers will be held from June 23 to June 25, 2025. After counselling, the transferred CHOs will be given a deadline of July 7, 2025 to report to their new postings.
For intra-district transfers, the District Health Officers of the Zilla Parishads have been authorised as competent authorities by the government. Additionally, instructions have been given to the districts to establish committees as needed for the transfer process. This decision is expected to strengthen the healthcare system and enable CHOs to provide more people-centric services.
