Environmentalist Stalin D, who visited the site on Saturday, confirmed that the debris had been cleared.

“Illegally dumped mud and rocks inside Aarey forests are being removed and the land is being restored. Thanks to the Maharashtra State Forest Department’s senior officials for acting promptly to restore the site,” Stalin D said.

Large quantities of soil had been dumped in forest-declared areas of Aarey Milk Colony, one of Mumbai’s last remaining green zones.

Environmentalists and city-based activists have demanded strict action against those responsible, including forest officials accused of neglecting their duties.

The officials have tasked the contractor who dumped the material with clearing the site and restoring the area, sources said.
