In a veiled criticism of the BJP’s Tiranga Yatra and the Congress-led Jai Hind Sabha events, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discourage political parties from organising celebratory rallies in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Amit Thackeray praised the Indian Armed Forces for their bravery and sacrifice during the recent military engagement that followed the terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. However, he also issued a word of caution, stating that Pakistan’s track record suggests a ceasefire should not be mistaken for victory.

“This is not a victory, but merely a ceasefire. It would not be appropriate to celebrate it,” Amit Thackeray wrote, appealing to the Prime Minister to ensure that political parties refrain from organizing public celebration rallies.

The BJP has been conducting Tiranga Yatras to commemorate Operation Sindoor, while the Congress has announced a nationwide series of Jai Hind Sabhas from May 20 to May 30 to honour the courage and success of the Indian Armed Forces.

While lauding Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and his decisions related to national security, Amit Thackeray emphasized that political focus should remain on boosting the morale of soldiers and their families, rather than engaging in public displays of celebration. “If anything is to be done, it should involve staying vigilant, supporting the families of our soldiers, and showing sensitivity towards the situation—not turning it into a spectacle,” the letter stated.

As of now, neither the BJP nor the Congress leadership has issued a response to Thackeray Jr’s letter.
