The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set a target to complete the road repair works in Mumbai by May 31, an official statement said on Sunday.

According to the official statement, the BMC said that under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is making significant strides in its mission to ensure smooth, pothole-free roads across Mumbai.

During a recent inspection of various locations in the western suburbs, Gagrani reiterated the municipality's commitment to completing key road improvement projects by the set deadline of May 31st, 2024, it said.

The initiative includes leveling of all road junctions within BMC's jurisdiction with a uniform asphalt layer, alongside the ongoing cement concretisation of roads in the city.

Meanwhile, highlighting the importance of completion of the work in time, Gagrani stressed that citizens should not encounter difficulties related to potholes, urging officials to expedite the ongoing works, the BMC statement said.

It said that Gagrani was accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar, Chief Engineer (Roads and Traffic) Manishkumar Patel, and other officials.

The top officials conducted a thorough inspection of ongoing cement concretisation works in Mumbai's Khar, Andheri, Goregaon, and other areas of the city.

At 16th Road in Khar (West), particular attention was given to the dry lean concrete work to ensure efficient drainage of storm water. Gagrani mentioned that the importance of maintaining even road surfaces at junctions where concrete and asphalt roads meet, aiming to minimize discomfort for motorists, the BMC said.

The civic body statement stated that directives were issued to remove barricades obstructing traffic, especially during the upcoming monsoon season, and to refrain from initiating new road works after the deadline. Measures to minimize inconvenience to citizens during ongoing road works were also underscored, with a focus on prioritising timely completion of the pending works to prevent further disruptions.

Meanwhile, in Andheri (West), the completion of cement road work near Rajiv Gandhi College was commended, with Gagrani expressing satisfaction with the connectivity of the ramp and effective execution of footpath works.

The slump cone test conducted during pavement quality concrete work at Goregaon-Mulund Link Road aimed to ensure proper cement-water proportions, it further said.
