The Dindoshi police have arrested a 44-year-old man who allegedly sexually abused a seven-year-old girl who attended daycare services run by his wife at their home in Malad East. According to police sources, the incidents occurred between July 1 and July 9. The minor informed her parents about the alleged abuse on Monday night when she refused to go to the daycare the following day.

“During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused and the victim reside in the same residential society. The accused's wife operates a daycare centre at their residence, primarily attended by children aged 4 to 11 from the same locality, most of whom have working parents,” said police sources.

The accused and his wife were responsible for caring for and teaching the children. The victim’s parents are a working couple. The girl attended school and then went to the daycare centre at the accused’s residence. On Monday night, the victim refused to attend the daycare and disclosed to her parents that she had been sexually harassed by the accused, her caregiver’s husband.

According to the police, the accused allegedly gave the girl a mobile phone to play games in the bedroom and, while she was distracted, behaved inappropriately and sexually abused her. “Following the case's registration, several other parents came forward, alleging that their children were also sexually abused by the accused. These children have shared their experiences with their family members. We will verify these claims,” an officer stated.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Tuesday. The accused was produced before the court on Wednesday and has been remanded to police custody, the officer added.
