RCF Police arrested a man suspected of damaging a petrol/diesel supply pipeline at Chembur while attempting to steal petrol. The cops found that the accused used multiple implements to damage the pipeline and that the alarm system rang twice to alert the BPCL Company.

The accused has been identified as Vinod Pandit, a tanker driver. There were no CCTV cameras at the spot, but cops identified the accused following witness statements and technical analysis.

According to the police, Pandit first attempted to break the petrol/diesel pipeline on November 13 at 9.30 pm. While breaking the layers of the pipeline, the intrusion detection system went off.

A police officer said, "The company officials visited the spot and checked the area but didn't find anything amiss. However, on November 14, the alarm went off again. When the BPCL staff reached the spot, they found that someone had dug under the gas pipeline and found an iron coupling, bolt, spade (favda), hammer, cutter, hacksaw blades and many other tools."

The BPCL officer immediately informed the RCF police and registered an FIR against the unknown person.

A police officer said, "We checked the area and found no CCTV cameras at the spot. But, we found witnesses there who identified the accused. This incident happened near the Pepsi company gate."
