Elderly residents of Chimanbhai Premji Vora Road (10A) in Matunga have been complaining for the past seven to eight months about delivery drivers parking dangerously and riding recklessly on the narrow two-lane street.

Residents said the problem is linked to delivery riders visiting a nearby Sahakari Bhandar. Despite repeatedly approaching the shop owner and requesting that drivers be instructed not to double- or triple-park, residents claim their concerns have been ignored, particularly over the last eight months.

“After the Ganpati festival, the situation went completely out of control. Earlier, we would see around 10 to 25 two-wheelers parked here. Now it is 40 to 50, sometimes even in the middle of the road,” said Ajay Kothi, a local resident.

Kothi added that when residents began approaching the delivery riders directly, the situation briefly improved. “Initially, they were polite and listened for a few hours. But now they have completely stopped following any road etiquette. We have seen them sleeping on footpaths, smoking, using abusive language and riding the wrong way, without any concern for others,” he said. “This continues till 10 or 11 pm, when most residents, many of whom are senior citizens, are asleep.”

Dinesh Gandhi, a 72-year-old resident, said the reckless driving has led to several near-accidents. “There have been multiple close calls. A few days ago, a rider was reversing dangerously and nearly hit another vehicle. We have tried involving the authorities, but nothing has changed,” he said.

In a letter to the traffic police in Sion, residents stated that the situation has made it difficult for senior citizens to cross the road while visiting nearby places such as Haveli temple and Tarun Sandan for morning and evening darshan.

Residents said they submitted a written complaint after meeting a senior traffic officer in Sion, but no resolution has been seen so far. mid-day contacted the Sion traffic police for a response, but no comment was received till the press time.
