Mumbai weather update: Possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places

Mumbai weather update: Mumbai and its suburbs are bracing for inclement weather, as the India Meteorological Department indicated that the city is expected to have overcast skies with the likelihood of rainfall and thundershowers. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall occurring at isolated locations in both Mumbai city and its surrounding suburbs.


A high tide is expected at 11:37 hours which is expected to reach a height of 4.71 meters. Following this, the city will experience a low tide at 17:49 hours, with the water level receding to a mere 0.36 meters. Looking ahead to September 30, 2023, another high tide is projected at 00:08 hours, peaking at 4.74 meters, and subsequently, a low tide is set for 05:58 hours with a depth of 0.61 meters.

The recorded rainfall figures for the Mumbai Metropolitan region between 8 am yesterday (September 28, 2023) and 8 am today (September 29, 2023) exhibit noteworthy variations across the city.

The city center received a total of 9.59 mm of rainfall during this period while the eastern suburbs experienced a more substantial downpour, with a recorded rainfall of 25.15 mm. The western suburbs were not far behind, with 22.52 mm of precipitation.

On Thursday evening, a nowcast warning was issued, alerting residents of several districts in Maharashtra of impending weather conditions. The warning, issued at 10 pm on September 28, 2023, forecasts the likelihood of a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and moderate spells of rain.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday afternoon issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and its neighbouring areas including Thane, Palghar and Raigad and predicted rains in these areas. 

The IMD, in a weather bulletin said that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at one or two places were very likely.

Meanwhile, Mumbai on Thursday witnessed heavy rains in parts of the city with lightning. 

The IMD also issued a yellow alert for parts of Maharashtra including Pune, Nashik, Ratnagiri, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Jalna, Aurangabad, Beed, Parbhani, etc. 

An orange alert was issued by the IMD for Sindhudurg on Thursday.
