The striking Ola and Uber drivers on Wednesday were asked to wait for further discussions by transport department officials until Tuesday and then take further decisions, officials said.
The strike will continue until that time, affecting commuters across the city, including at the airport and stations.
The protestors met transport department officials and placed their demands. After hearing the complaints about aggregator companies from the protestors, the transport department sought time from the striking unions to initiate dialogue with the companies, officials said.
They also requested support for the family members of the driver from Nalasopara in Palghar district of Maharashtra who died by suicide, reportedly due to his inability to repay a vehicle loan.
"The protestors met us on Wednesday. They sought action against Rapido, which we have actually begun. There are also some issues about tariffs, which will be addressed in the new aggregator cab policy. We have called them for a meeting on Tuesday," a top transport official said.
Meanwhile, cab drivers at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai said they would continue with the strike and stop all those plying.
"The strike will continue while the talks are ongoing," a cab driver said.
A section of cab drivers also continued their hunger strike at Azad Maidan in solidarity with the deceased cab driver and to push for their demands to be fulfilled.
The five key demands include rationalisation of fares, setting fares on par with meter cabs, a strong opposition to bike taxis, a cap on cab and auto permits, activating the welfare board for cab and taxi drivers, and implementing the Maharashtra Gig Workers' Act.
