The Maharashtra government will organise a simultaneous mass drill of patriotic songs across all schools in the state on January 26 on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse announced on Thursday. The programme will take place in schools of all boards, mediums, and managements, following the official flag-hoisting ceremonies, and is expected to see participation from over two crore students and more than seven lakh teachers across more than one lakh schools.

Speaking to media and senior education officials via video-conference, Bhuse said the initiative, based on the ‘Nation First’ concept, aims to inspire students with patriotism, self-discipline, physical fitness, and health awareness. He directed officials to ensure students and teachers face no inconvenience and encouraged public representatives, officials, parents, villagers, and local residents to attend.

The minister added that all schools have been provided sample guide videos for preparation, with students practising collective recitals every Saturday. Depending on local ground capacity, the event may be held within schools or in a common field, with each teacher guiding 10 students during practice.

Bhuse emphasised that the recitals will create a patriotic atmosphere, and the School Education Commissioner will oversee all arrangements. He also clarified that students who are sick, differently-abled, or physically weak will not be forced to participate. Adequate publicity through electronic media, newspapers, and All India Radio has been directed.

During the video interaction, Bhuse also reviewed preparations for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations scheduled to begin on February 10. Schools were instructed to ensure CCTV installations and other infrastructure to ensure a fear-free and smooth examination experience for students. Maharashtra State Board Chairman Trigun Kulkarni and deputy directors from various departments assured the minister that the mass drill will be conducted in a disciplined and high-quality manner across the state.

366 students from BMC-run CBSE schools to appear for Class 10 board exams for first time

As many as 366 students from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will appear for the Class 10 board examinations for the first time this year.

The students belong to 10 CBSE-affiliated BMC schools, which are part of the civic body’s education department. The CBSE Class 10 examinations will be held from February 17 to March 11, 2026.

To prepare students for the examination, the BMC education department has initiated special practice sessions, mock tests and focused academic support.

Students are being trained through practice question papers, while guidance from expert teachers from select private CBSE schools has also been sought to strengthen exam readiness.

Under the guidance of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr Avinash Dhakane, the civic body’s education department continues to expand and strengthen its academic initiatives.

The BMC currently runs 18 CBSE-affiliated schools, offering education across eight languages — Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, English, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
