The Samajwadi Party general secretary talks exclusively to MiD DAY about his New Year resolution and the need to 'mellow' down
"I simply enjoy controversy. Life'd be dull otherwise."
This is what Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh had said in an interview with MiD DAY in March last year.
And the media-savvy, flamboyant politician kept true to his word. Throughout the year, Singh never shied of making headlines whether it was the standoff with former senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan or the scuffle with BJP leader SS Ahluwalia in Parliament.
However, the New Year would see a rather "mellowed down" Amar Singh, he told MiD DAY while sharing his New Year resolution.
"I will try to restrain myself and be very specific while reacting to my rivals and other developments," he said.
"2010 will see a new Amar Singh," the Samajwadi leader said.
Singh, known for his prompt and often poetic outbursts at his rivals, said he would try to remain calm and not waste his energy while thinking and reacting to others.
"I will try to get rid of my anger, petty prejudices and the dislike against my rivals so that I achieve the purity of soul and my conscience become clean," he said.
The media-savvy politician said a lot of his energy that gets wasted on others would now be utilised more for his own welfare.
Singh, a member of the Parliamentary health committee, has also resolved to contribute in the field of healthcare, especially for the poor.u00a0 "I will try to dedicate myself to the cause of health care of poor and needy. I will donate whatever maximum I can for deaf and dumb school at my locality," Singh said.
