A brief encounter ended his 10-year-long vanishing streak. Suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant Abdullah Inquilabi was nabbed in the Capital late on Sunday night in a joint operation between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir police. MiD DAY had reported the incident yesterday. On Monday, a city court sent the accused to 14-day police custody.

Police officers confirmed that Inquilabi fired six rounds from his 9mm pistol to escape from the trap lain by the cops. The cops also fired some rounds and eventually caught him. Inquilabi is a suspect in major killings during the 2005 atrocities on Hindus.

"The accused is suspected in killing of 11 people in a day during the anti- Hindu violence in 2005. He is also a suspect in the killing of three J&K policemen and BSF personnel," said a police officer.

Inquilabi is also known as Mr Surrender as he made many offers over the years to officers of surrendering, only to give them the slip. Police officials confirmed that the accused had come to Delhi to develop some sleeper cells.

"The accused crossed the Indo-Pak border from the PoK and then married an Indian girl to hide his identity. He was produced in a local court and was sent to 14 days in police custody," the officer added.

The Inspector General of J&K police Ashok Kumar also held a press conference in the valley about the suspect.
"Abdullah was initially chief of Hizbul's Pir Panjal Regiment (HMPPR) which got wiped out recently and he took over as Hizbul's divisional commander for Jammu province, the IG said.

Abdullah had let loose a reign of terror in Pir Panchal area and in the neighbourhood including Budhal, Dharamshala, Kalakote, Shopian, Mahore, Gulabgarh and other parts of the Reasi district," the IG told reporters.

The police confirmed that the accused were started there criminal life in an early age of 18 years. Both of them have dozens of serious cases lodged in Delhi and neighbourning states.
