Man says wife's family wanted him to abandon his aged parents and live with them instead

A 36-year-old man says his brothers-in-law tried to kill him for refusing to leave his aged parents and live with them.

In his complaint to Subramanyapura police, B Ravi also alleged that his in-laws got his wife married to another man after he refused their offer.

Ravi, an employee at Kirloskar factory, said he was knocked down by a speeding car near Vidyavardhaka School while returning home on his friend's bike on Tuesday. "I noticed my brothers-in-law Nagaraj and Ramachandra in the car," he said, but they sped away as soon as passers-by came to his rescue.

"They wanted to kill me and make it look like an accident," Ravi told the police.

Ravi was immediately shifted to Ananya hospital in Rajajinagar where he is out of danger. He had fractured his left leg.

Ravi said he married Manjula six years back and has a five-year-old son. A few months after the marriage, his in-laws started forcing him to live with them. When he refused to abandon his aged parents, Manjula took their son Darshan and started staying with her parents.

"I approached my in-laws to bring her back but her brothers started pestering me to stay at their place. When I refused, they started threatening me and beat me up."

Ravi has filed two attempt-to-murder cases in Vyalikaval and Subramanyapura police station in this regard.
