Inebriated NRI who ran over a traffic cop is mysteriously tightlipped about the 26 years of his life that he had spend in Canada, say police

Canadian national Kamal Jain (62), who ran over assistant sub-inspector (traffic) VB Jadhav on Sunday doesn't appear too keen on being sent to Canada, police sources said.

"It is not clear why Jain wants to continue living in India. The government had issued him a 'leave India' notice on July 3, as his visa was residential that allowed him to just stay in the country and not work," said a police officer from the Pune Police's Special Branch. He added thatu00a0 Jain was deported to India on July 3 but returned on July 16 after clearing his papers.

Jain, who was the CEO of an Indian telecom major, was sent to magisterial custody by Judicial Magistrate (first class) Jyoti Purkar on Tuesday.

Non-cooperative
Senior Police Inspector Suhas Nadgauda, who is investigating the case, told MiD DAY, "Jain who was earlier cooperating with the investigations has stopped cooperating now. We have tried unsuccessfully to get him divulge the details about the 26 years he has stayed in Canada and the details about the firms he worked with."

Traffic cop? Who?
Jain also claimed in the enquiry that he was not aware that ASI V B Jadhav whom he dashed with his car was a cop as he was wearing white and khaki uniform meant for the traffic police. Nadgauda said, "I refused to buy his claims. How can a person who has been in Pune for the last ten years, not recognise a traffic cop's uniform?"
