Amrita Rao on her glamourous looks and being called Miss Wow by her co-stars
Amrita Rao has crossed over from the sweet and simple to the sweet and spicy, and she has finally managed to grab eyeballs with her makeover look, courtesy designer Manish Malhotra, for her upcoming film ShortKut the Con is On. We ask her...
How do you feel these days?
Well, I feel like it's a huge compliment for an actress to surprise her audience from what they have seen before.
Was it a conscious decision to move away from the girl-next-door persona?
I could sit and fancy anything but the truth is such roles have to come my way. I never really portrayed a glamourous and sexy diva who is larger than life on screen. But who says the girl-next-door is boring and can't be sexy or humourous?
Is Manish your favourite designer now?
I have two favorites him and Swapnil Shinde.
Wasn't there a time when your dressing was all wrong?
I preferred dressing simply.
I wasn't too much into clothes. I preferred shopping for artifacts and interiors. So yes, I must have gone through fashion faux pas and not realised it. (Laughs) But I would not wear stuff I wore two years ago. Guess it is trial and error. I prefer to learn from my mistakes than not learning at all.

Best compliment then?
Arshad Warsi loudly changing my surname to Miss Wow! Every time I walked into a set wearing Manish's outfit, he would go, "Amrita Wow". (Laughs) I am still trying to get used to the new title.
And the worst?
(Thinks) I think I have thrown it out of my long term memory.
Favourite co-star?
(Without hesitation) Shahid Kapoor.
Why?
The whole first film equation brought out that comfort level. We work very well together...on screen.
And off it?
Cordial. Shahid and I are fond of each other. There is no romance between us. I have not found a guy. (Laughs out loud)
Okay, so what is your favourite link-up?
The most irrational one where I was linked to both Goher Mumtaz and Farhan Saeed from the Pakistani band Jal.
You met with an accident recently.
Yes, and my poor Merc got hurt. (Laughs)
Shahid called too.
No, it was actually a SMS interaction and I had messaged him to compliment him on his looks in Kaminey.
I don't know how the accident and my SMS got interlinked.
I was misquoted. (Laughs mischievously)
