Bangalore's engineering students are trying to put the garden back into Garden City with a two-day Green Summit on March 13 and 14.
Students from various colleges, along with three NGOs, will showcaseu00a0 technology to conserve energy and keep the city green during the summit which is part of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering's (UVCE) ninth annual tech fest, Impetus 2009.
Repurpose, recreate
"Technology will be our tool," said Shruthi S Rao, a student of UVCE and one of the organisers. "Our aim is to repurpose present-day technology, rethink man's stand on global issues and recreate a better world."
Besides creating awareness on energy conservation, students will carry out campaigns tou00a0 save Bangalore. "We have planned events and will discuss issues as simple as tissue paper to issues like global warming," said Shruthi.
Mock Parliament
There will also be a mock parliament on issues pertaining to the environment. After passing the motion, students will discuss CAP (College Action Plan), where each of them will analyse issues pertaining to the city and present their plan of action. "We will follow the best plans," says Shruthi.
Hand-in-hand
"Many initiatives will be carried out in the city along with NGOs already working on the field. We will come out with a comprehensive action plan on the final day of summit," said Krishna S, another organiser.
The NGOs working with the students are IYCN (Indian Youth Climate Network), Arghyam (Indian Water Portal) and Saahas (working on waste management).
