However, cops deny any pattern behind the crimes of passion
Seven of the 30 murders registered in the Pimpri-Chinchwad areas in the last two-and-a-half months were crimes of passion, involving illicit sexual relationships.
"The figures put the number of such murders at more than 20 per cent. Of course, there is no pattern to murders connected to illicit sex," said Additional Commissioner of Police Rajinder Singh.
Mrudula Karwande, police inspector, social welfare department, Pune police, said such crimes of passion rarely happened in situations where couples were in live-in relationships.
"I have come across very few cases of murders involving live-in relationships," she said. Singh attributes the rise in crimes of passion to the changing lifestyles of young people.
"These are social problems which happen due to sudden economic growth, and because the surroundings are unsafe.
We have been very vigilant and have already managed to crack 28 of the 30 murders," he explained.

Kiran Pujari (26), the alleged murderer of 34-year Vidya Ghorpade and her five-year-old son Om was brought to Pune on Sunday after he was arrested by the Pune Police with the help of the Special Terrorist Force of Uttar Pradesh.
Pujari, according to the police, had an illicit relationship with Ghorpade. He allegedly killed Vidya and her son at Pimpri-Chinchwad on March 13 following suspicions that she had affairs with other men as well.
