The accused Wadala resident Nafeezul Shaikh works at a Zari Unit in Antop Hill, where the victim would regularly visit his uncle, said cops. On Wednesday afternoon, Shaikh went over to the victim’s residence at Antop Hill and lured the boy with sweets.

Shaikh then took the boy behind a generator van parked outside his building and tried to sexually exploit him. However, a mechanic working in a nearby garage heard the boy cry and went over to check. He caught Shaikh sexually abusing the boy and raised an alarm. Shaikh was then handed over to the police.

“Shaikh has been charged under Section 377 (unnatural sex) of the IPC, and sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The victim was later sent for medical tests and the reports are awaited,” said Shashikant Yadav, PSI at Antop Hill police station.

Shaikh has been remanded in police custody until May 12, and cops will now be interrogating him to check if he had abused the victim in the past, since he frequently visited his employer’s residence. Checks will also be carried out to determine whether he had victimised other minors in the past, the police said. u00a0
