If Mili is to be believed, she began humming even before she spoke her first sentence!
With musicians for parents, it was but natural that song came before speech, she says with a smile. "My musical journey was never planned. In school everyone envied meu00a0 for my voice. I literally sang my way through college," she says.
After completing Bronze level in choral music from the Trinity College of Music, London, she trained in western classical and Carnatic music. She began experimenting with jazz, rock and pop as well. "I appreciate all kinds of music. I guess I am lucky to have a taste of all kinds of music,"u00a0 says the pretty 25-year-old.
Although she has many role models, music itself is her biggest source of inspiration. "Music itself is my teacher, who has taught me values like patience and hard work," she says.
Keith Peters, one of busiest artistes on the Indian music scene, will also perform along with Mili. Keith, whose first performance was at a five-star hotel in Chennai, has worked with AR Rahman. "I played the guitar for some of his jingles and I was part of Roja's music too," he says.u00a0 For inspiration, he listens to Jacko Pastorius, jazz bassist.
Sumith Ramachandran, who hails from Palakkad in Kerala, can straddle varied styles such as jazz-rock, classic rock, country, blues and Carnatic genres with equal ease. "My brother taught me to hold a guitar when I was three-and-a-half years old. I fell in love with it. My formal training began when I was eight years old," he says. He was also an integral part of Usha Uthup's line-up, playing guitar and keyboards from 1993-2005, extensively touring India, the US, Netherlands, New Zealand, Kenya and Tanzania. He has also performed with several South Indian playback singers such as K J Yesudas, P Susheela and T M Sounder Rajan. "I enjoy performing in Bangalore because the audience is so responsive. I find the city an exciting place because so many kinds of music flourish here," he adds.
