Vashi Fine Arts Society (VFAS) will be presenting a Tamil play on environmental awareness; it will be performed by a troupe from Anna University Cultural Group on October 26
Navi Mumbai’s Vashi Fine Arts Society (VFAS) will showcase the Tamil play Venthu Thaninthathu, meaning smoldered, as their event of the month. Enacted by the troupe from Anna University Cultural Group, Chennai, the play will be held on October 26 at Vashi’s Marathi Sahitya Sanskruti Mandal hall, in Sector 6 at 6.30 pm.
GREEN WARRIORS: The play, based on enviromental awareness, has won several accolades
The play is about an uprising, in which villagers protest against setting up of a chemical factory in their village. Concerned about the detrimental effects the factory will have on their village, the protesters fight against the industrialisation of the rustic land in their village.
The story is written and directed by G Sivakumar, who has been working as a librarian of Anna University for the last 30 years. He also plays the lead role.
The act has won a number of accolades in Chennai and Delhi, where it was staged on World Ozone Day on September 16. All actors are staff members of Anna University, who are on a mission to spread environmental awareness through their play.
Mohana Iyer, secretary of VFAS, said, “The play is about 100 minutes long. The troupe is coming for the first time not only to Navi Mumbai but also to Mumbai. Since global warming is a hot topic, we want the Tamil-speaking people of Navi Mumbai to take advantage of it. They will surely enjoy the play with such ace artistes performing it on stage.” u00a0
