A place to tete-a-tete

If there is a restaurant bang in the middle of Delhi, on the nineteenth floor, thereu00a0 are very few things to complain about - even if the food does not live up to the standards.



The location of The Lalit and its very gracious staff and always impeccable service more than makes up for the mostly mediocre fare served in all its restaurants, including the very prolific coffee shop.

But then you don't go to restaurants like The Grill for its European and Mediterranean culinary skills. You go there to unwind, have a few drinks and start conversations - with business associates, friends and acquaintances, partners and lovers - over the view from there.

Responses will vary from wow to 'wish-this-were-in-Bombay', and as long as the alcohol is ample and food to reach out to, this is one place where one can spend a leisurely evening. Sometimes, the burden of good food can take away from the other worldly pleasures.

Given the kind of place it is, skip the main course and settle for appetizers and grilled platters. The Baked Button Mushrooms filled with Crayfish and Crab can be good but do ask if the crab is absolutely fresh. The Walnut Crusted Shallow Fried Brie is a safe choice - what can ever go wrong with deep-fried cheese - and sets the mood of a diner and lack of real dinner well.

You can also have the Mix Meat Platter but ask for extra sausages instead of the lamb chops, which are rather inconvenient to eat and stand out from the rest of the finger food on the table full of glasses.
