Abducted before divorce hearing

HR manager with top IT firm accused of kidnapping wife to keep her from attending court

An HR manager with a leading software company in the city has been accused of kidnapping his wife just days before the hearing of a divorce case filed by her. A complaint to the effect was filed by Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) M Rytha, father of the HR executive's wife Sunitha, with the Vijay Nagar police.

Sunitha, also an HR manager in a city-based firm, married Subhojiy Guha Roy in September 2005. Roy is an HR manager with Hewlett-Packard in Electronics City.

Sources said Rytha told the police the abduction was an attempt to stop Sunitha from attending court for the divorce hearing.

Rytha said in his complaint that Roy was already married when he met Sunitha but convinced her that he had got a divorce, and the two went in for a registered marriage at the Vijay Nagar sub-registrar's office.

Home for first wife
After three years Sunitha found Roy had kept up his relationship with his first wife and that he was maintaining a home for her at RPC Layout, said the complaint.

As this amounted to adultery, Sunitha decided to opt for a divorce and filed a petition before the family court this April.

Soon after filing the petition, Sunitha moved into her parents' home in Panjore, Haryana, and returned to the city with her parents on Thursday to attend the hearing in the divorce case on Monday.

A little after Sunitha and her parents had arrived in Bangalore, Roy is said to have paid them a visit accompanied by four men at the relative's place they were staying at and asked to have a word with Sunitha in private.

Sunitha refused, but Roy kept requesting the family and they finally relented.

Taken for a ride
The rest of the family left to give the couple privacy, but Roy took the opportunity to allegedly force Sunitha into his car and speed away.

Rytha and the others sensed something wrong and gave chase, but in vain. They tried dialling Roy's mobile phone number, but the instrument was switched off.

While Roy could not be contacted, senior police officers said they were not aware of the case. MiD DAY tried to contact the Rytha family as well, but they refused to comment.
