Admissions would take place until July 28 and students are expected to check their names in merit list put up at all city colleges and then visit the college allotted to them for instructions on admission process. "Those students who do not take admission now and wait for the first waiting list are being warned that if they do not get admissions later, the CAP committee will not be held responsible," cautioned Sunil Magar, deputy director of education.

The CAP committee said that a total of 13,966 seats are vacant in colleges. "Maximum numbers of applications were for science stream and all seats are filled. In commerce faculty and arts faculty, many seats are vacant. But this number will change as some students have made dual applications like science and commerce or commerce and arts and will now choose according to college allotted. Also ATKT students are yet to get admission, so final figure of vacant seats will be declared only after the ATKT admissions," said Rekha Palshikar, vice-principal of Fergusson College.

The colleges were initially set to open up on August 4 but are opening on August 8 instead, owing to the confusion in admissions of CBSE board students. Admission pleas of 114 students, who had opted for the CBSE internal school exams instead of central board exam have been rejected, said Magar. According to the cut-off list of colleges declared by CAP, the highest cut-off point for science stream admissions was recorded by Laxmanrao Apte junior college that closed at 97.27 per cent followed by Fergusson College in the city and Jaihind College in Pimpri which both closed at 94.55 per cent.

In the commerce stream, Deccan Education Society's Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) maintained its position by recording highest cut-off at 93.09 per cent, while the prestigious Fergusson College topped the arts category with cut-off at 90 per cent. After July 28, which is the late date for admissions according to merit list, all colleges will put up list of remaining seats and the first waiting list. From July 29 to July 30, admissions according to the first waiting list will take place. A second waiting list depending on vacant seats would be put up on July 30 after 5 pm and admissions would take place for such students on August 1and August 2 until 5 pm.

A meeting of all principals will take place in Fergusson College on August 3 for vacant seats and on August 4, admissions of ATKT students would take place at Fergusson College's recreation hall on table basis. Those students who didn't fill up forms for the CAP process admissions for various reasons will be given admissions based on vacant seats after August 8 and are expected to contact individual colleges for the same.

"We have also set up a complaints cell which will function from July 26 to July 28 in five city colleges, namely Fergusson, Nowrosjee Wadia, Seth Parashurambhau, Garware and Mhalasakant College in Akurdi. It will operate between 10.30 am to 4 pm and all students who feel that they haven't got into colleges of their choice despite having the requisite marks are expected to approach these committees," said Magar. Students can also call on 020-32346011 or 020-32346012 with complaints.
