Senior political analyst Arakere Jayaram believes that the developments emerging from the political turbulence has revealed the all-round mediocrity of the BJP in the state. "The best of the bad lot got elected and now Sadananda Gowda would function at the courtesy of Yeddyurappa. I doubt if he would ever be able to escape the clutches of BSY and he would never be able to assert himself. However, I praise the BJP high command for conducting internal elections for the same," said Jayaram.

Someone better?
Explaining his stance, Jayaram added, "There is a complete disconnect with intellectuals in the party today. BJP came to power in Karnataka because of the charisma of the national leaders. Most leaders were elected by bribing voters and my verdict is that it will be routine administration and in the present circumstances, Jagadish Shettar would have been a better CM."

Senior political analysts Sandeep Shastri on the other hand believes that Sadananda's appointment as CM implies two things. "This means that the former CM continues to have a strong say in the party. By this move, the BJP has ensured that they get support from both communities in the state -- the Lingayat and the Vokkaliga communities," said Shastri.

He further added that there will surely be a difference of style in the working of the new CM. "I do not think that he would bring about major policy changes, but he likes to keep everybody in his good books. He is a 'Please All' person and maybe that is what the BJP needs at the moment," he said. Shastri added that Sadananda will improve how the government has been functioning and will bring the warring factions together.

'A lucky CM'
Meanwhile, city astrologers have already dubbed Gowda a lucky CM."Gowda seems to be lucky and his horoscope clearly reveals his capablility of handling power and running the show smoothly," said astrologer S K Jain, further adding that he would not be a puppet in BSY's hands.

"Gowda is a peacemaker by character and he will unite the troubled parties. He does not crave power, but power bowed down before him. Those who join him now will benefit. In all, BSY is the biggest winner and Gowda was apt for the post and he can now call the shots. Yeddyurappa's failure, is actually his ultimate victory," explained Jain.

Drama leaves hotels, caterers smiling
A few hundred rooms have been booked at various hotels in the city, and the kitchens have been busy dishing out all the meals for MLAs, MPs and the party high command during the recent political drama. Sources at hotel, where the BJP leaders were put up, revealed that in all 57 rooms, including executive, luxury and deluxe suites were booked last week. "Food amounting to about Rs 1 lakh has been ordered so far and someone came to us and paid us Rs 3 lakh as advance towards the same," the source informed. While the hotel authorities refused to reveal who paid for everything, sources discreetly say that the amount was paid by someone outside the party.
