City RTI activist requests protection after receiving threatening calls
Close on the heels of murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa in Ahmedabad, another activist in the city Ganesh Borhade is now fearing for his life.
In a letter written to the state, city activists Vijay Kumbhar and Vivek Velankar are fighting to get protection for Sangamner-based Borhade, who has been receiving death threats.
According to the activists, Borhade who has been investigating an alleged illegal transfer of land worth over
Rs 6 crore started receiving threats 15 days ago.
"He had filed an application with the Sangamner police but they took no heed. After Satish Shetty's murder it is appalling how they can be so casual," said Velankar.
City activist Satish Shetty was murdered in broad daylight in January.
Borhade told MiD Day that he had filed a RTI application seeking information from Sangamner's sub-divisional officer regarding the transfer and sale of certain property given to the descendants of late poet Anant Phandi.
"Legally the descendants are not allowed to sell the land. However, I started receiving threatening calls from July 7. I filed a complaint with local police furnishing the phone numbers," said Borhade. However, he alleged the police were yet to file a formal complaint.
